Frequently Asked Questions
What you ask us, grouped by what the site is, where its data comes from and what you can do about it.
The site
What is CheckTechOut?
One brand, one comparator per category. There is one today, for laptops, and each comparator has its own: its catalogue, its comparison, its saved list and its forms. The landing page is there to choose which one you enter.
Which comparators are there?
Laptops, today. The next ones come from what people search for: if the one you need is missing, tell us and we will look into it.
How do I compare two products?
Tick "Compare" on a product card: the tray at the bottom keeps the selection and takes you to the comparison. Up to four side by side, the columns can be reordered, and the link can be shared — the comparison travels in the URL.
Can I save products for later?
Yes, with the heart on any card, and it needs no account: signed out the list lives in your browser and we never see it. Signed in, it is stored on your account — the list you already had on the device is merged in — so you have it in any browser.
Which languages and countries?
Spanish and English, and prices follow the country and the currency you pick at the top. We only show the stores that deliver to that country.
The data
Where do the specifications come from?
From the manufacturer's sheet and from technical reviews, field by field: the manufacturer wins, and a review fills in what it does not publish — measurements and details its own site leaves out. A field only one source declares is filled by that source, and a complete sheet beats a short one.
How is the score calculated?
A 0–100 mark that combines a product's specifications with where it sits in the catalogue, recalculated as new models arrive. It is not a press score, and it is not an average of opinions.
Where do the prices come from?
From stores that deliver to your country, in your currency. The price on a card is the cheapest of those stores, and it is the one the filters use. We keep the history, so you can see whether today's price is a good one.
Are the opinions unbiased?
Registered visitors write them and nobody is paid for them. They go through a review before publication, and a machine never overrules a person's decision.
Taking part
Do I need an account?
To read, compare and save, no: the list works without an account, and with one you have it on any device. To write an opinion, propose a product or correct a value, yes: that is how we know who contributed what, and how we can tell you the outcome.
Can I correct a value or propose a product?
Yes: every article has "Propose a correction" for a wrong value and "Propose a product" for a model that is missing. Every proposal is checked before it is applied.
How is the site funded?
Through affiliate links: if you buy through one we may receive a commission, and the price you pay is the same. The commission does not influence which products we show or the order of the stores, which is by price.
What do you do with my data?
What a session and your preferences need. Analytics is optional and only runs if you accept it; the rest of the cookies are necessary. The privacy policy has the detail.
